The Clark County Cup golf tournament began in 2024. This tournament was born from the vision of Chris Harlow after attending the U.S. Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, NC with his son, Christian. Players age out of the U.S. Kids World Championship at age 12. During this final year, players have the ability to qualify for a team event called the Van Horn Cup and includes the top 20 players from the stroke play Championship. Chris saw the youth golfers give everything they had to qualify for this event and took note of how much it was filled with team camaraderie, new friendships, and great golf. It was clear a similar event needed to make its way to Clark County, WA.
Qualifying
Following the boys fall golf season, the top two players from each of the surrounding high schools within Clark County from all classifications who meet a minimum scoring average requirement will be invited to participate in the Clark County Cup, a one-day best ball match play tournament.
Format
The qualifying players will be divided into two teams - Team Green and Team Blue. The tournament committee will make the two teams as even as possible. Two players from each team will form a partnership, or "side", and play against two players from the opposing team in a best-ball match play format. Players from the same high school may be put on the same team, but will not be teamed as a partnership for a match.
Winning Holes:
On each hole, each side will determine their "best ball", which is the teammate with the lowest score. The best ball from each side will be compared and the side with the lowest score wins the hole.
Halved Holes:
If both sides have the same score on a hole, the hole is "halved" or tied, and neither side wins that particular hole.
Winning the Match:
The match is won when a side is ahead by more holes than there are holes left on the course. For example, if a side is "three up with two to play," the match is over, and they win one point for their team.
Halving the Match:
The match is halved when a neither side is ahead after 18 holes. A halved match will earn a 1/2 point for their team.
Concessions:
A player can concede a short putt, an entire hole, or even the match to save time or to be courteous.
