About
How the Cup came to be
The Clark County Cup debuted in 2024, inspired by founder Chris Harlow’s time at the U.S. Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, NC. There, he watched the top 20 stroke-play finishers regroup into the Van Horn Cup — a team event built on camaraderie as much as competition — and set out to bring that same format to junior golf in Clark County.
Following the boys’ fall golf season, the top two players from each surrounding Clark County high school — across every classification, meeting a minimum scoring-average requirement — are invited to compete.
Qualifying
Head coaches designate their top two varsity players who meet the scoring-average threshold. Outside schools may receive a special invite if needed to fill the field.
Format
Qualifiers are split into Team Green and Team Blue. Two-player partnerships from the same team — never from the same school — face off against the opposing team in best-ball match play.

- Best ball of the pairing determines who takes each hole.
- Halved holes
- Both sides tie on a hole when their best balls match.
- Match end
- A match closes once one side leads by more holes than remain to play.
- Ties
- A match that finishes level awards half a point to each team.
- Concessions
- Players may concede putts or entire holes, as in standard match play.

Royal Oaks Country Club
A tough, tree-lined golf course with fast, demanding greens and multiple tee options for players of every skill level. Royal Oaks maintains premier grounds with exceptional drainage and is a fixture on the Pacific Northwest tournament calendar.

Banquet
Dinner, the trophy, and a keynote
After the tournament, players and families gather for a banquet dinner to celebrate the field, crown the winning team, and hear from the year’s keynote speaker.
The Clark County Cup trophy is presented to the winning team and stays on display at Royal Oaks Country Club through the year. Every player on the winning side takes home an individual trophy.

Two-time PGA Tour winner and USC All-American who shared the 54-hole lead at the 1995 Masters before finishing T-10. Now based in the Portland area, where he coaches junior golfers and co-owns The Golf Farm instruction facility.

Everything players & families ask
Who is invited to play?+
The top two players, designated by the head coach for each varsity team within Clark County, receive an invite. Outside schools may get a special invite if needed to fill the field.
What schools are committed to play?+
Participating schools vary year to year based on which Clark County programs opt in for that season. The confirmed list for this year will be posted on the Teams & Tee Times page once rosters are finalized.
How are the two teams determined?+
Players are ranked by season scoring average and GHIN index, then split into Team Green and Team Blue so both squads are balanced in competitive strength.
How are best-ball partners determined?+
Two players from the same team are partnered up and matched against opposing-team pairs of equal strength, based on the same rankings used to build the teams.
When will tee times be posted?+
Head coaches submit player names by 9am the Thursday before the event. Teams, partnerships, and tee times follow within two days on the Teams & Tee Times page.
How does scoring work?+
Team Best Ball Match Play. The team that earns the most points across all matches claims the Clark County Cup.
When do tee times start?+
Tee times begin at 1pm, with lower-ranked teams starting first and top pairings going off in the final groups. Live scoring runs through Golf Genius — see the Teams & Tee Times page for this year’s GGID.
Will there be live scoring?+
Yes — each group has a walking scorer entering hole-by-hole results into Golf Genius for a real-time leaderboard.
What tees will be played?+
White tees, to keep pace of play consistent with league match customs.
What happens if there’s a tie?+
If team points finish level, the winner of the prior year retains the Cup.
If I’m out of the hole, can I just pick up?+
Yes — picking up is encouraged once your score can no longer count as the best ball, to keep pace of play moving.
Can I have a caddie?+
Your caddie should be a member of your school’s golf team — not a parent or coach. Caddies help with pace, yardage, pins, and course care.
Is there a dress code?+
Yes, and it’s strictly enforced on the course and on clubhouse grounds, per Royal Oaks Country Club standards.
Does the dress code apply to the gallery?+
Yes. Families and friends must follow the dress code, or may be asked to change or purchase compliant apparel from the pro shop.
Is there a cost for the burger bar?+
Free for players and sponsors. $20 per person for everyone else.
What's the expected pace of play?+
Four hours, strictly enforced. Please replace divots (or sand them where replacement isn’t possible) and fix your ball marks on the greens.
